Point 16 Leadership

It is undoubtedly true that Jeremy Corbyn does not fit the current mould of a party-political leader.

For me and most Labour party members that’s a real bonus. Under Blair and Brown the party had moved so far from its core beliefs that it no longer could be called “the party of the people”. They ripped its heart out, christened it “Blue Labour” and disfranchised those it used to represent.

The problem with the parliamentary Labour party is it is full of blue Labour MPs. They are determined to discredit Corbyn, made him suffer the indignity of a second leadership contest and to their dismay he won. Even so, having increased his majority across all three sections of the party, they still waged war against him in a way only the Tories know how.

The second group of people that don’t like Jeremy Corbyn is the media. They have genuine cause not too. He believes in a free and open press and always has. What he questions is the motives of their backers and the influence they have on editorial impartiality and practices. Rupert Murdoch claimed innocence but the Leveson Inquiry disagreed opening a peep hole into a very seamy world. Vilification by Murdoch and his buddies is more a badge of honour deserving public applause.

Jeremy Corbyn Is a leader who has many attributes the same as the greatest labour leader of all Clement Attlee. One of Attlee’s quotes goes a long way in understanding what Corbyn Stands for, “No social system will bring us happiness, health and prosperity unless it is inspired by something greater than materialism”. This type of thinking is foreign to the Tories, Murdoch and chums and Blue Labour.

If you believe you are doing OK, you probably are.

The reality is you have the EU to thank. The hard line Tory right is steering the country out of the EU in their own image for the favoured few. If you believe you will still be doing OK after a right wing Tory Brexit I am even more pleased for you. For the majority, however, who know they will not, they need a Prime Minister who is on their side. They need a reforming Prime Minister who has the strength of character and integrity to deliver on their behalf.

Only one person meets these requirements and that is Jeremy Corbyn.
